researcher, educator, artist

Reflection

This blog reflects my three selves that are inseparable  a researcher, art educator, and artist.

I have an MFA in Photography, a PhD in Art Education, and a passion for teaching art. While I have several favorite words in the English language, serendipity is my favorite for its pleasant phonaesthetic quality and meaning. While everyone has the option to select their journey the outcome is unpredictable. This is the serendipitous point at which I begin this blog…

Serendipity noun, ser·en·dip·i·ty [ser-uhn-dip-i-tee]

  • accidental discovery of something fortunate, pleasant, valuable, or useful.
  • making discoveries, by accidents and with a keen sense perception, of things you were not searching.

serendipity (n.)

1754 (but rare before 20c.), coined by Horace Walpole (1717-92) in a letter to Mann (dated Jan. 28); he said he formed it from the Persian fairy tale “The Three Princes of Serendip,” whose heroes “were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of.” The name is from Serendip, an old name for Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka), from Arabic Sarandib, from Sanskrit Simhaladvipa “Dwelling-Place-of-Lions Island.”
